Money Lending To Friends And Family

a man holding cash as an act of money lending

In this post, I will be sharing my experience and view on money lending to friends and family.

Since childhood, there is a situation where friends and relatives request to borrow some money from me.

Usually, I won’t lend them my money unless I am prepared not to receive back the money I lent out to them.

Money can be a very sensitive issue. It has proven records in breaking marriage, family and relationship.

So, if I feel my lending does not bring any benefit to the borrower, I will just tell him ‘Sorry, I don’t have extra money‘.

In most cases, the borrower won’t dare to question me back or requesting for a second time. If the borrower deserved my lending, then I will pass him the money.

What I meant by deserved is that he needs the money for an emergency. And not just simply want to get financial sympathy.

If he didn’t pay back, then I just consider I donate the money to him. It’s just too hard to remind borrowers especially close friends and relatives to pay back our money.

Do you lend your money to friends and families? If yes, do they pay back? If not, does it affect your relations with them?

Finally, what is your view or advice on money lending to friends and family?
