Among the news, I read this morning is the gender pay gap in Malaysia from The Star Online.
The article is about the wages for male versus female workers in Malaysia.
The huge gender pay gap in Malaysia
Sad to say that in the majority of the sectors, there is still a huge gap between wages for males and females in Malaysia. Male workers are being paid about 25% more than their female counterparts except in certain industries such as the construction industry.
Thus, I am wondering if the corporate sector is offering the same salary package for both male and female candidates. Very likely it is not.
I am not against men being paid more than women. But, an average of 25% wage difference across most industries and most levels of jobs (entry-level, service and sales, skilled workers, managers, professionals) and in different states, is a huge difference.
It would be more balanced if, in the same industries or entry-level, women earn more than men.
From my working experience, female employee contribution is no less than male employee contribution. Sometimes, a female employee even contributes more.
Then, why is the huge difference in their salary package?

Is female in general less capable than male or people racist over female and give female less salary? Maybe in general, male is more career oriented than female?
Perhaps along their career path, female had to give up or at least slow down their career advancement due to childbearing and taking care of their young children.. so, it does somehow affect their paycheque. Comparing to male who can concentrate on their career along the way…
