Are you an iPhone user and you are using the unifi mobile plan?
If yes, there is a very high chance that you are not able to set up a Personal Hotspot for data tethering or data sharing.
And you started wondering if it is your iPhone problem. But you remember you don’t have any problem with your previous mobile provider.
Actually, it is not your iPhone problem.
This problem is caused by the setting requirement by unifi mobile for both its mobile plan. Either the new #BEBAS plan or the postpaid plan which is previously known as webe mobile.
In fact, you can do Personal Hotspot for iPhone using unifi mobile. But there are some simple settings that you need to do on your iPhone.
Previously, I came across many angry iPhone users who use unifi mobile, asking why they can’t turn on their Personal Hotspot.
For iPhone users, after the user inserted unifi mobile SIM, Personal Hotspot may totally disappear. Or it keeps buffering and won’t allow you to turn it on.
But, not to worry.
Actually, Personal Hotspot is still there. Just that it is hidden somewhere.
Read on further on how you can enable iPhone Personal Hotspot or data sharing on unifi mobile.
How to enable iPhone Personal Hotspot on unifi mobile
All you just need to do is to follow the step-by-step below to activate your iPhone Personal Hotspot.
If you have no time to read through, jump straight to step 6.
- Go to ‘Settings‘ on your iPhone
- Then, go to ‘Cellular‘
- Select ‘Cellular Data Network‘
- You will be at a page where you see ‘Cellular Data‘, ‘MMS‘ and ‘Personal Hotspot‘
- At this stage, update the APN for ‘Cellular Data‘ with ‘unifi‘ (In case the APN is not updated. By right, ‘unifi’ should be there already when you first inserted your unifi SIM card and completed the configuration)
- Update the APN for ‘Personal Hotspot‘ with ‘unifi’ (no need to fill in ‘Username’ and ‘Password’. You may refer to the screenshot further below)
- Then, tap the back button to go back to ‘Cellular’
- You can go back to ‘Cellular Data Network’ just double-check whether the APN setting for ‘Personal Hotspot’ is updated with the word ‘unifi’
- Go back to ‘Setting’, you should be able to see ‘Personal Hotpot’ has been activated.
If you still can’t find ‘Personal Hotspot’ on your iPhone, you may reboot your iPhone.
In most cases that I came across, most iPhone users immediately see the ‘Personal Hotspot’ activated once they reboot their iPhones.
Final thoughts
In summary, the simple trick for unifi mobile or webe mobile with the iPhone is to update the APN setting for Personal Hotspot with the word ‘unifi’.
But, many iPhone users are not aware of this.
Even if they are aware, they don’t know where exactly is APN setting is for Personal Hotpot.
Hope the above helps.
