Is Money the Main Reason Why you are Working?

For this post, I would like to know is money the main reason why you are working.

Is money the main reason why you are working?

We all have a job.

It can be an engineer, a doctor, a professor, an accountant, a housewife, a babysitter or a full-time blogger.

What do we get from a job?

Definitely, the measurable part is we get some money for our work done. But, is money the main reason why you are working?

For me, yes, money is one of the many reasons why am I working. I am working so that I will get my paycheque at the end of the month.

From my paycheque, there is a lot that I can do. I can support myself and my family in many ways. I can ensure all of our basic needs are met. I can also reward myself with a relaxing facial session or have a long holiday trip to Japan.

And of course, I can invest part of it for my future and my retirement planning. Not forgetting, I save part of it for rainy days as well. As, at this moment, we hardly survive without money.

But, other than for money, other reasons why I am working including for personal fulfilment. This means that I work so that I can gain more knowledge and expand my social circle.

Working also makes me feels like there is value in me and it feels great when my contributions can help for the growth of the organization. It is also a great way for me to further understand myself and my surroundings.

Final thoughts

So, as for me now, I do work for money. Soon, I hope the money will work for me.

How about you?

Is money the main factor that keeps you do what you are doing?

  1. Hi 『雷門與江邊鳥』, that's a great one. Feeling like we are someone important 🙂 Psychologically, it is the essence that keep us moving forward.

  2. I am not a workaholic but I work for money. I do not want to do it this way until age 55. I want to get out of the rat race soonest possible so that I have time to do what I really love.

  3. It's nothing wrong to work for money as long as it is legal. However, at the same time, we must not forget to make the money work for us too. You will be surprised to know that how many people actually forget that. I agree with you, Yan.

  4. YMH, thank you for the world 'legal'. Yes, absolutely right. For most of us, we spend a lot of time working for money. It's time to learn and think how to let money work for us. I also learned a lot from your blog (https://whitman.com.my/). Thank you for the sharing 🙂

Not sure but to me at the moment I am working not for money. I used to stay at home and make money from blogging and I was making quite well but now I am working in a developers firm to learn the trick and trades about properties and I am taking a massive pay cut on this. So I guess currently I am working to learn rather than the money.

  6. Hi Kampung Investor, if I were you, I will continue to make money from home (blogging) 🙂 but again, at different time and different stages of our lives, we will make decision differently.

  7. Hi, good to see familiar names here. Hello to kampunginvestor, sure you make good money this month. Mr YMH, surprise to see/meet you here! Well, I kind of agree with kampunginvestor, do what you want to do instead of doing it for money. Well money is working for me n living freely!
